What would you do if you had a concealed carry firearm permit, a gun, and came across a scene in which a police officer was being brutally beaten on the side of the road?

That’s the exact situation that a bystandard found themselves in, in Estero, Florida.

According to the Washington Post, Deputy Dean Bardes was responding to an interstate crash when he was almost struck by a blue Toyota that was reportedly exceeding 100 mph.

Officer Bardes sensed that the near-miss was intentional, and gave chase.

Nicole Ambrosini was an eyewitness who caught the tail-end of the chase, and told WZVN about the subsequent events that left one person dead.

Ambrosini said that she saw the blue Toyota and police cruiser get off on an exit ramp at speeds near 120 mph.

“I SAW THE DEPUTY AND THE SUSPECT OUT OF THEIR CARS WITH THE DOORS BOTH WIDE OPEN AND THEY WERE SOME TYPE OF ALTERCATION.”
That altercation lead to a physical struggle, and eyewitnesses say the suspect threw the officer to the ground, and began beating him.

It’s at that point that an unidentified by-stander saw the scene unfolding, and took action.

The man, who is being hailed as a Good Samaritan, called out for the suspect to get off of the officer, and threatened to fire his gun if he did not.

The suspect ignored the directions, and continued to beat the officer who was yelling,

“SHOOT HIM! SHOOT HIM!”
Three shots rang out, and the suspect fell to the ground.

Officer Bardes reportedly called the situation in, using his microphone, and then lay back down on his back.

The suspect was later identified as 53-year-old Edward Strother, and responding paramedics were not able to revive him. He died at the scene.

Officer Bardes was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor wounds, and was shortly released.
