Melania Trump fires back at librarian who rejected gift of Dr. Seuss books as ‘racist’

First lady Melania Trump fired back Friday at a Massachusetts elementary school librarian who rejected her donation of Dr. Seuss books, claiming their illustrations are examples of “racist propaganda.”

Stephanie Grisham, director of communications for the first lady’s office, said in a statement to Fox News that the response was “unfortunate,” and Mrs. Trump wanted to use her platform “to help as many children as she can.”

“She has demonstrated this in both actions and words since her husband took office, and sending books to children across the country is but one example,” she said. “To turn the gesture of sending young students some books into something divisive is unfortunate, but the First Lady remains committed to her efforts on behalf of children everywhere.”

To celebrate “National Read a Book Day,” the first lady had sent out a collection of 10 Dr. Seuss books to one school in each state across the nation. The titles included: “The Cat in the Hat”; “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”; “Wacky Wednesday”; “Green Eggs and Ham”; and “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”

She followed in the footsteps of her predecessor, Michelle Obama, who often read Dr. Seuss books to children. Former first ladies Hillary Clinton and Barbara Bush also read to children at Dr. Seuss-themed educational events.

‘To turn the gesture of sending young students some books into something divisive is unfortunate.’

– First lady Melania Trump’s office

“I wanted to send you a special gift. Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is a book my son and I have read over and over again, and one that we want to share with all of you,” the first lady wrote in her letter to students. “Please also remember that you are the future of America and that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.”

But despite the gesture, Liz Phipps Soeiro, a librarian at a public school in Cambridge, wrote a letter to the first lady, which was then published on The Horn Book blog, notifying Mrs. Trump that her school would “not be keeping the titles” for their collection, explaining that her school didn’t have a “NEED” for the books, due to her school and library’s “award-winning” status.

“I work in a district that has plenty of resources, which contributes directly to ‘excellence,’” Soeiro wrote. “My students have access to a school library with over nine thousand volumes and a librarian with a graduate degree in library science.”

Soeiro went on to slam the White House and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos for not gifting the books to “underfunded and underprivileged communities,” which she suggested “continue to be marginalized” by DeVos’ policies.

But Soeiro seemed to be the most offended by the books themselves.

“Another fact that many people are unaware of is that Dr. Seuss’s illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes,” Soeiro wrote, giving  examples of “If I Ran a Zoo” and “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” as clear “racist mockery” in Seuss’ art.

‘My students have access to a school library with over nine thousand volumes and a librarian with a graduate degree in library science.’

– Liz Phipps Soeiro, explaining why her school doesn’t need Melania Trump’s book donation

While Soeiro bristled at Melania Trump’s donation, former first lady Michelle Obama also read Dr. Seuss books to children a number of times during the previous administration, without controversy.

Soeiro seemed to recommend journal articles, reports, and books for Mrs. Trump, to inform her on the “systemic racism and oppression in education and literature.”

“I am honored that you recognized my students and our school. I can think of no better gift for children than books; it was a wonderful gesture, if one that could have been better thought out,” Soeiro wrote, attaching a list of 10 books that she hoped would “offer a window into the lives of the many children affected by the policies of your husband’s administration.”

“You and your husband have a direct impact on these children’s lives,” Soeiro wrote, encouraging the first lady to “reach out” to their “local librarian” for recommendations. “Please make time to learn about and value them.”

Soeiro’s profile on The Horn Book says she is “an advocate for inclusive libraries and active in her community to create spaces that are welcoming to all students.”

Woman objects to Confederate flag, gets own permit for Black Lives Matter flag

A Fredericksburg, Virginia woman has gotten a permit to erect a large Black Lives Matter flag on her property, a flag she says is in opposition to a 30-by-30 foot Confederate flag visible from Interstate 95.

There have been multiple attempts to get the Confederate flag taken down, but the Stafford County ruled earlier this month that it can stay put. The flag is on private property near the Falmouth exit of the interstate.

Susan Kosior says she now has to raise $20,000 to $25,000 to buy a flag and pole that match the size of the Confederate flag a few miles from her home. The flag has been up since 2014 and some are angry that it is visible from the highway.

“There was one gentleman who says when he drives by it every day for work, it takes him 10 or 15 minutes to calm down,” Kosier said. “It really is a very frightening and visceral reaction people have to that flag.”

The Confederate flag is flying on the property of Hubert Wayne Cash, but was put up by a group called Virginia Flaggers. The group flies flags like this one along highways across Virginia. Cash says the group paid him $1 for a 100-year lease of his land.

“There’s no hate, there’s no hate here,” said Cash.

He says for him, it is all about his ancestors who died fighting in the Civil War.

“We are just trying to preserve our history and our ancestors were Southerners. This is the South,” Cash said.

He says the people offended by his flag shouldn’t look at it.

“I’m figuring if they are going to put up a flag down the road, Black Lives Matter, I’m not going to sit there and stare at it and feel bad about it,” he said. “I mean it’s their flag, it’s there right. If they do it, well, God bless them.”

Female teacher, 35, found guilty of turning classroom into sex den with teen boys

A California teacher found guilty of turning her classroom into a private sex den during school hours is now facing six years in prison over the explicit encounters she had with students.

Danielle Matko, a 35-year-old former English teacher at the East Palo Alto Aspire Phoenix Academy, was convicted Tuesday of one count of oral copulation with a minor and three counts of lewd acts with a minor. All of the incidents are believed to have taken place in late 2015 and involved a 15-year-old boy, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said.

“Female teachers who commit offenses such as this are fairly few and far between,” San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti told the San Jose Mercury News. “But we see it.”

Deliberations were expected to continue on additional charges and accusations regarding another student.

Police said the encounters happened during free periods and after school. Matko was talking with one boy in the classroom when she showed him her breasts and allowed the student to touch them, prosecutors said. They added she then touched the boy sexually.

Prosecutors allege Matko showed another 15-year-old student her breasts in a separate incident. A key piece of evidence was a phone photograph of her naked torso taken by one of the students, which was shared with an attorney who notified police, Guidotti told the Mercury News.

“There was no doubt it was her,” she said.

Matko is facing a six-year sentence and must register as a sex offender. She denied the allegations but did not speak during the trial, while her attorney wasn’t immediately available for comment, the Mercury News reported.

Matko was quickly fired by the academy after the allegations surfaced.

Cops using sneakers to spot MS-13 members, gang leader says

Forget the faces covered with tattoos. The gang signs. Even the guns and knives sticking out of their jeans.

The real way to spot an MS-13 gangster is by his sneakers.

A top leader of the notoriously violent gang told associates in the U.S. to ditch their footwear, because that’s how law enforcement was identifying members.

In a racketeering indictment unsealed Thursday, Edwin Manica Flores, known as “Shugar,” allegedly told other gang leaders to avoid wearing clothes and colors associated with MS-13 as to not attract police attention.

He specifically told them to steer clear of blue and white Nike Cortez shoes, Newsweek reported.

“Dressed like that, the enemy can see you, the police can arrest you, and boom, to El Salvador,” the 35-year-old reportedly told gang leaders in tapped phone calls from a prison in the Central American country. “To a great life there, one must be humble, you know, to avoid being detected.”

According to Nike, the original Cortez, which debuted in 1972, was the first “masterpiece” by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. The shoe consisted of unprecedented cushioning in the insoles and was very lightweight, which made it one of the most popular running shoes at the historic 1972 Olympic games.

Flores, who investigators say led the gang’s East Coast operation from prison in El Salvador, was indicted as part of a six-month operation that led to more than 3,800 arrests across the U.S. and Central America.

More than 70 people have been arrested during roundups in Los Angeles, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Long Island and Columbus, Ohio.

MS-13, which originated in Los Angeles in the 1980s before spreading like wildfire to the East Coast, is believed to have some 10,000 members across the U.S. They are a mix of Central American immigrants and U.S.-born members.

The gang, whose motto is “kill, rape, control,” is known for its use of gruesome tactics, including hacking and stabbing its victims with machetes. It has been tied to a wave of recent violence on Long Island, just east of New York City, and has been linked to brutal killings in other states.

The notorious gang continues to tighten its grip across the country by tapping into young, vulnerable unaccompanied immigrant children and giving them a sense of family, experts say.

“MS-13 has a powerful marketing strategy in which they offer a family for these children,” Angel Melendez, special agent-in-charge of the ICE Homeland Security Investigations unit in New York, told WJLA.

He said unaccompanied minors made up about 30 percent of recent arrests against the gang.

A former MS-13 gang member told WJLA the group target minors because they are more likely to get a slap on the wrist for any crimes they might commit.

“They have no boundaries. They are not afraid to kill kids, parents, cousins – they are not afraid,” he added. “As long as they are sending the message they are sending, they are not afraid to do what they have to do.”

MS-13 has become a prime target of the Trump administration, which discusses its violence in suburban, immigrant communities in an effort to build support for a broader crackdown on immigration. President Trump directed federal enforcement to focus resources on combating the transnational gangs.

For federal prosecutors who have long worked to quash the gang, the new emphasis is rewarding.

“The more work we do down [in Central America], the more it helps us here,” said David Rybicki, a deputy assistant attorney general in the Criminal Division, who oversees the organized crime and gang unit. “We can’t effectively work on our cases here without information from El Salvador.”

These recent indictments will change gang dynamics, said Zach Terwilliger, who prosecuted gangs in the Eastern District of Virginia before taking a position in the deputy attorney general’s office.

“The gang feels as though it’s under a microscope,” he said.

LeBron Gets A Brutal Surprise After Calling Trump’s Supporters ‘Uneducated’

Following LeBron James series of tweets attacking and insulting President Trump and his opinion about the disrespectful NFL players who are protesting the national anthem, conservative supporters didn’t stay silent. The famous NBA All-star player was in the headlines when he attacked Trump’s supporters calling them ‘uneducated’.

So now, the ‘uneducated’ people have humiliated LeBron in a way he could’ve never expected, teaching him English grammar 101 in one picture, which contained all his grammar mistakes he made in the tweets he used to call the conservative supports uneducated.

So now, the ‘uneducated’ people have humiliated LeBron in a way he could’ve never expected, teaching him English grammar 101 in one picture, which contained all his grammar mistakes he made in the tweets he used to call the conservative supports uneducated.

Apparently, the LeBron was hit by this much more than he expected so up till now he hasn’t responded to the picture. And maybe that’s for the best since his strong side is not communication. As it turns out he should stick to sports, and stop trying to be ‘righteous’ and attack President Trump and his supporters, most of which are well-educated people who believe in President Trump and his vision.

From now on LeBron should first check his grammar before he posts something against a people who are clearly highly educated.

Do You Agree With Rush Limbaugh’s Claim That The Democrat Party is America’s Largest Hate Group?

It can be said, and rightfully so, that the liberal left has taken on an attitude of vindictiveness, never before seen.

With every disappointing loss in an election, the hatred, and vitriol they express just illustrate the ever-increasing level of desperation they feel.

Whenever liberals talk about those on the conservative right, who disagree with them, they use terms that one would use to describe the most vile and wicked villain imaginable and not a person who simply holds a different opinion.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh made some very poignant observations about liberals in his Tuesday broadcast that may explain, to a large degree, what the liberal left has been unable to recognize about themselves.

As recounted in Breitbart News:

Tuesday on his nationally syndicated radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh pointed out the mood of the Democratic Party, which he described as resentful and unhappy, and noted liberal comedians are “consumed by hatred.”

This combination of negative emotions according to Limbaugh has made the Democratic Party “the largest hate group” in the country.

Partial transcript as follows (courtesy of RushLimbaugh.com):

“Let me tell you something, folks. There is an inescapable observation and conclusion, and it is this.

You have to look very hard — and you have to spend a long time looking — to find a genuinely happy or content left-wing political person. Whether they’re an activist or not. If they’re engaged in any way, shape, manner, or form of politics, they’re not happy, no matter what. When they elected Obama, they got angrier. They got more enraged. After every success they have, nothing is ever enough. No amount much success ever makes them happy

Every success they have seems to tell them how little they’ve actually done and how much more there is and how deeply resentful of that they are. The bottom line is: You just don’t encounter happy, laughing liberals. Even their comedians are consumed by hatred. The Democrat Party’s become the largest hate group in this country. Even their comedians are angry and enraged, and that suffices as comedy. I think it’s one of the reasons why left-wing comics have become primary sources of news for other left-wing liberals.

So there’s never any happiness, there never is any contentment. You don’t see any real laughter. You just see a constant level of rage — and I’m telling you, it isn’t healthy. Talk about sustainable? That cannot be sustained. A healthy mind and heart cannot be sustained by the degree of rage and hatred that we see in the American left today. You have to ask: Why don’t their successes make them happy? Look at what they’ve done in the area of marriage. They’ve totally upended it.

They have succeeded in not just redefining a word that has stood for however many number of years — tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of years — that humans have been plodding and walking the earth. And even after they succeed with this, they get angry. They don’t ever seem satisfied. It’s the most amazing thing. And we’re all paying the price for it, this constant rage, this constant anger. They lose elections, and it is taken as one of the most outrageous things that could happen.”

Rush has always been very astute in sizing up what liberals are thinking and why they do what they do.

Even when liberals get their way, it doesn’t make them happy, only more determined to shove their contempt down the throats of anyone daring to disagree with them.

At this point, someone needs to ask why? For what purpose?

Democrat politicians have whipped their liberal base into a frenzy in order to win elections and when they don’t win, then violence becomes justified in their minds.

This attitude cannot continue because the eventual result will be an America torn asunder.

Trump Aides Are Confounded by His Hospital Lie: ‘He’s Just, You Know, Doing His Thing.’

The president of the United States has been repeatedly blaming the biggest legislative failure of his administration on a senator in a made-up hospital, and no one in the White House is quite sure why.

Starting Wednesday, President Donald Trump has insisted seven times, in public comments to reporters and via his Twitter account, that Republicans failed to deliver on his campaign promise to tank Obamacare because “you can’t do it when somebody is in the hospital.”

That somebody—“one senator” who is a “great” guy, Trump says—is Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS), who is not in the hospital. Cochran and his office were forced to clarify this repeatedly. The senator himself tweeted: “I’m not hospitalized, but am recuperating at home in Mississippi and look forward to returning to work soon.”

And yet, Trump continued to make this excuse, most recently on a Thursday morning broadcast of his latest Fox & Friends interview.

“Oh, Pete, the health care bill didn’t go down,” Trump told Pete Hegseth, the Fox News interviewer. “We have the votes, but reconciliation is a disaster… We don’t have enough time because we have one senator who’s a ‘yes’ vote―a great person―but he’s in the hospital.”

White House officials could not quite rationalize why President Trump keeps promoting the bizarre claim. One senior Trump aide told The Daily Beast that the president was “just, you know, doing his thing,” in riffing on a topic and reiterating a false claim to which he feels attached. Another said the media was engaged in hair-splitting to ding the president. But when The Daily Beast emphasized that the failure of the repeal effort had nothing to do with a sick lawmaker, the official did not respond.

Another White House official, however, did, only to sarcastically reply: “tax reform going great.”

Officials spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to speak freely about a fake hospital.

Trump’s lie about Cochran isn’t the first time that he has left his aides completely baffled by their boss’ wild assertions or conspiracy-theorizing. And, as in the past, this one left Trump’s public defenders in tough spots.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did not address The Daily Beast’s repeated emails on the subject Thursday morning. But during the afternoon’s White House press briefing, she insisted that it was the administration’s “understanding” that “the senator was physically unable to be here this week.” She also insisted that Trump has been saying “in the hospital” as shorthand for “physically unable to be here” in Washington, D.C.

But Sanders also repeated the incorrect talking point that the White House has “the votes on the substance” of repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act—just not the process or the bill itself.

It was not entirely clear what was meant by the latter point.

Corporate America Has Amassed a Record Amount of Cash

Corporate America has never been in better shape to put its cash hoard to use on everything from investment to acquisitions, share buybacks and dividends. Or just hold on to it.

Non-financial companies’ liquid assets, which include foreign deposits, currency as well as money-market and mutual fund shares, reached a record of almost $2.3 trillion in the second quarter, according to Federal Reserve data released Thursday. That’s up nearly 60 percent since the recession ended in mid-2009.

LAST MAN STANDING’S TIM ALLEN On Why He Wasn’t Allowed To Call Obama A “Communist” On TV And Why Hillary Reminds Him Of HERPES

Before ABC cancelled Tim Allen’s number one show “Last Man Standing,” Allen spoke with the Hollywood Reporter. They asked him why he has such strong political views. They wanted to know if he was a fan of Donald Trump’s, what he thought of Hillary and Bill Clinton, and if it’s really true that he wanted to run an episode that included raising a communist flag over the White House when Barack Obama was President.

Whose idea was it for Mike Baxter to have loud, conservative political views?

I brought that to the table. I wanted to be provocative. Mike Baxter is an educated Archie Bunker.

Definitely. But you know what? I’ve earned it. I don’t say that lightly. I’ve been on a successful show and learned from the best. But I find Last Man Standing actually rougher than Home Improvement. We’re getting away with a lot of stuff. I’m really shocked. This is a meaner, sharper comedy than I’m used to. There’s a lot of times our very liberal writing staff will come up with stuff that even my character would say, “I don’t know if I can say that.”

How much is playing this right-leaning character an outlet for you to express your own political views?

It’s getting more and more comfortable. These guys know me so well that they’re writing stuff that is exactly what I would’ve said. It’s a marvelous thing when you have liberal people writing for [a show like this]. I believe Stephen Colbert was like that. He was pretending to be a conservative, I think. Someone said that. I never got that, but maybe I didn’t watch it enough.

Has the line between you and your character blurred over the years?

For most of my life, I’ve been taxed above 38 percent. When you’re a young guy working the road and literally close to half of what you make goes to people who don’t help you at all but just bitch about it the whole time, that’s where I come from. I come from “no taxation without representation,” and it manifests itself in very peculiar points of view.

How are you different from Mike?

He’s milder than I am. You wouldn’t want to hear what I have to say. Escalate Mike Baxter with profanity and that’s basically me. He’s much more tepid because he’s a business owner. Mike Baxter is calmed way down, and I’m definitely not that guy.

What riles you up the most?

Unearned responses, unearned praise, unearned income: I have opinions about it. When you watch the debates, on both sides you see clowns who say shit that ain’t ever going to happen, but lately, one party is the free shit party. They are just telling people they’re going to get all sorts of free shit. When you say you’re going to get free education, free healthcare — f—, free brown loafers — of course, everybody’s going to say yes to that.

But you don’t mean it. That’s how you rack up debt, and debt is killing us. Whatever party is going to get us out of debt is my party.

Who scares you?

Well, we asked the female writing staff if they’d vote for Hillary just because she’s a woman, and they all said yes. So then the question was, “So if Sarah Palin was the female?” They all choked and they had to say, “Oh God, yes, we’d vote for her.” I didn’t quite buy it. I don’t think you should vote for somebody just because they’re tall, thin, yellow, green, whatever. Bernie Sanders, as nice a guy as he is, none of that shit’s going to happen. And Trump can’t send everybody to Mexico or whatever the f— he said. But give that guy the roads, bridges, infrastructure, power grid — just have him fix that shit for four years. He’s good at that. And he’s a businessman so he understands how debt load works. Forget the stupid shit he says about immigrants. That’s just ignorant. But he might be able to do the stuff that really needs fixing.

So you’re not opposed to Trump?

I’m not opposed to anybody if their workload matches their bullshit load.

Why has the show gone after Hillary but not Trump?

It’s a little surprising to me. We have a very liberal writing staff, so I’m surprised they haven’t taken a shot at him. But we’re not sure he’s going to last, whereas the Clintons are like herpes: Just when you think they’re gone, they show up again.

Didn’t you try a bit about Obama raising the communist flag at the White House that never made it to air?

We got network notes saying you can’t call the president a communist. So, of course, I really wanted to. I do it in rehearsal all day long.

Man Raped His GF’s Baby Until She Died, Now There’s A Petition For Him To Be Publicly Hanged

The government website petitions.whitehouse.gov allows citizens to submit petitions online, directly to the White House. If the petitioner manages to collect 100,000 signatures, the White House will issue an official response.

On Oct. 5, a petitioner identified as “J.R.” submitted a petition entitled “Publicly hang Benjamin Taylor.” The petition reads as follows:

On Oct 4, 2016, it was reported that Benjamin Taylor, of Cottageville Wv, sexually assaulted a 9 month old baby girl. As of the time of this petitions creation, the baby was pronounced brain dead as a result. Prison is too good for child rapists and their ilk. I would move to say that our ‘justice system’ is even a part of the problem, in that incarceration is hardly justice when it comes to such an awful act. Maybe if these people were actually afraid of what would happen to them if/when they were caught, they’d be less likely to do such vile things? When it’s an open and shut case such as this, let us hang these creatures publicly. Let us make examples of them, and allow the American people to attend these hangings so that the accused may be ridiculed, as they should be.

Currently, the only states that allow hanging as a method of execution are Washington and New Hampshire, notes ABC News.

Since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976, there have been only three death-by-hanging executions. The most recent was 23 years ago, in 1993, when Washington State hanged convicted child murderer Westley Allan Dodd.

Furthermore, West Virginia abolished the death penalty more than 50 years ago, as the Daily Mail points out. So despite the fact that J.R.’s petition had 32,000 signatures as of Oct. 7, it seems unlikely President Barack Obama will grant his wish to have a hanging in West Virginia.

The 10-month-old victim mentioned in J.R.’s petition is Emmaleigh Barringer, reports the Daily Mail. Her mother, Amanda Leigh Adkins, reportedly found Emmaleigh naked and bleeding on her basement floor at 5 a.m. Oct. 3.

According to a criminal complaint, Emmaleigh suffered extensive bleeding indicating a brutal sexual assault, and showed signs of having been shaken and struck in the face. She died later at the Charleston Area Medical Center, after being taken off life support.

When police arrived at the house in Ripley, West Virginia, they found Benjamin R. Taylor wiping the baby’s blood off his groin area, according to WSAZ. Blankets and clothes covered with blood were found nearby.

Taylor, who is not the victim’s father, originally told police he did not know how the baby was injured, and said he “blacked out” while doing laundry with the baby. He was described by relatives as a “Prince Charming” who swept the baby’s mom off her feet.
